The Decatur Creative Writing and Honors Clubs are participating in the 2005 African American Read-In on Monday, February 7th in the Student Center. The African American Read-In is a national reading chain which promotes literacy and an appreciation of the rich body of writing by African American authors. At host sites across the country, people will be reading from novels, short stories, poems, and essays of published and unpublished African-American authors. Now in its 16th year, the AFRICAN AMERICAN READ-IN is sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English and endorsed by the International Reading Association.

To read, sign up in the Decatur Campus ISS lab (1110 B Building) or call 404-244-2917. Or just come out and listen to some great literature on the 7th.

Civil War Maps - Library of Congress

The Library of Congress American Memory project has added a new collection of full image primary source maps for the Civil War era entitled Civil War Maps.

Excerpt from description:
"Civil War Maps brings together materials from three premier collections: the Library of Congress Geography and Map Division, the Virginia Historical Society, and the Library of Virginia. Among the reconnaissance, sketch, and theater-of-war maps are the detailed battle maps made by Major Jedediah Hotchkiss for Generals Lee and Jackson, General Sherman’s Southern military campaigns, and maps taken from diaries, scrapbooks, and manuscripts—all available for the first time in one place."

The collection is searchable and browseable by place, subject, map creator and map title. This exciting new resource is an excellent source of primary information for American history projects.
