SignUp Is Coming!

In March 2007, the SignUp computer reservation system will be installed in all of the GPC Libraries. This is the same system for logging on to computers that is currently in place in the GPC Student Computer Labs. When the software is installed, current GPC students, faculty and staff must sign in to the library computers using their GPC email username and password. Non-GPC affiliated library users will need to create a username and password at the Reference Desk to login and use the computers in the library.

The time limit on computer use under the new system is two hours per login. Time can be renewed if no other users are waiting for a computer. If all computers are full, users can join the waiting list by signing into a queue station. Computers are assigned on a first come, first served basis.

If you are a currently enrolled GPC student and do not know your email username and password, you can access your information through the Student Login Query form up to five times. If you are unable to access your login information online, email or call the Helpdesk at 678-891-3460.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we adjust to the new system.

Need to finish your paper or presentation? In order to better serve you, all of the computers in the library now feature Microsoft Office programs including Word, PowerPoint, FrontPage, Access and Excel. All of the USB drives on the computers now work as well along with most of the floppy drives. Floppy drives that don't work are covered with a sign. Please don't move the signs and try to use those drives. They really don't work.

There are also two new computers in the area near the photocopiers and TV/DVD/VCRs for your convenience.

MLK Birthday Celebration

The 2007 GPC Dr. Martin Luther King birthday celebration will be held on Modnay, January 15 at 7:00pm at the Beulah Missionary Baptist Church. The church is located at 2340 Clifton Springs Road, just one mile from the Decatur Campus.

The keynote speaker for this year's celebration is actor Ben Vereen. The program also features music and awards.

Print Management Update

Beginning January 1, 2007, GPC students will receive $7.50 (125 single sided prints) on their Printing Plan at the start of each semester. When the $7.50 has been used, you must add additional funds to your account to print. Additional funds may be added at the V-Machines located in the Library and Student Center on the Decatur Campus or in the Student Accounts Office. Additional information, including your current balance and refund procedures, is available on the Campus AccessCard website.

Also remember that old GPC AccessCards will no longer work for printing, photocopying or checking out library materials as of January 1, 2007.

Roof Repairs

Printing Problems

A couple of printing problems have arisen due to the computer upgrades. If you currently trying to print on the back section of computers (near the restrooms) and get a box that says "Save As" instead of the enter your name box for print management, follow these steps to print.

1. Click on File...Print. Don't use the print icon.
2. Choose the printer "decspool on TEALC". You may have to scroll over to see it.
3. Click print. The print management box should come up.

Also, the print release station located at the back section of computers is out of order. Use the print release station in the front of the library to get your print jobs.

We hope to have the problems resolved as quickly as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Both print release stations are now working!

Voter Registration/ Political Forum

The deadline for registering to vote in the November General Election is Tuesday, October 10. Register to vote and make your voice heard!

Once you register to vote, you'll need to learn about the candidates to make an informed choice. Run-Off Election

The 2006 Georgia Primary Run-Off Election will be held on Tuesday, August 8th. The Georgia League of Women Voters provides Voter Guides listing all of the candidates for office. Guides are provided in both English and Spanish. If you're not sure where to vote or what districts you live in, check out the Poll Locater from the Georgia Secretary of State's Office.

You can vote in the run-off even if you didn't vote in last month's general election. If you did vote in the general election, you can only vote in the run off for same party you voted in the general election.

Summer Hours

In order to save energy over the summer months, most GPC campus offices will be open Monday through Thursday only during Summer Semester.

The hours for the Decatur Campus library will be:

Monday - Thursday: 7:45am - 9pm
Friday - Sunday: CLOSED

In case you need to use library resources when we aren't open, the Clarkston Campus library will be open on Fridays and the Dunwoody Campus library on Sundays. Check the library hours page for each library for more details.

The hours for most other offices - such as Financial Aid and Student Accounts - will be from 8am until 7pm Monday through Thursday.

Summer hours begin on May 22 and end on July 31. We apologize for any inconvenience!

New ID Numbers And Cards

The new IDs are here! The new IDs are here!

You can now find out your new GPC-ID number by visiting the Get Your GPC-ID Here! Website.

After you get your new ID number vist the CampusAccess card office to have your new ID card made. The office on the Decatur Campus is located in room SC-2120 and is open Monday - Thursday from 9am until 12 noon and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm until 8pm.

You must get a new ID card by December 31.

Atlanta Reads

The Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs has announced Atlanta Reads: One Book, One Community, a program to encourage all citizens of the Atlanta area to read and discuss a single book of local interest. Following the announcement of the book on May 9th, there will be programs and events over the Summer and an appearance by the author in September.

AccessCard Server Outage

On Wednesday, April 12th AccessCard services in the Bookstore, Campus Cafe and vending machines will not be available due to a server upgrade. All V-Machines will be offline and the ID card offices will be closed as well. Photocopy and printing services should be available.

Service should be restored on Thursday, April 13th but some outages may continue for the next few days.

Instead of seeing the Academic Search Premier database on the front page, you are now looking at GALILEO Quick Search. The Quick Search allows you to search multiple databases by subject areas and see selected results from all of them in the same list. You can also choose to view all of the results in each database.

Of course you can still search GALILEO databases one at a time and if you miss Academic Search Premier, it is in most of the Quick Search subject options and is also accessible to serarch in most subject folders.
