African-American Read-In

The Inkwell Decatur Campus Creative Writing Club and the Honors Club are sponsoring the Decatur Campus African-American Read-In on Monday, February 6. The Read-In will take place from 9:30-1:30 in the Decatur Campus Gym.

We will be joining people across the country in a national reading chain to promote literacy and the appreciation of the rich body of writing by African-American authors. Come and read from your favorite novel, short story, poem, play, speech or essay written by an African-American author. Each reader will be given 3-5 minutes to read. A list of suggested readings is available from the National Council of Teachers of English (PDF file).

Sign up to participate in the Decatur Campus ISS Lab in room SB-1110 or call 678-891-2575 for more information.

1/27/06 Update:
Jene Watson and Jerrie Brooks have created a supplemental reading list for the Read-In. It has lots of great recommendations from all genres and styles of writing. The list is in Word format.
